Sumotori to build electric car plant in Russia’s Far East in 2018
VLADIVOSTOK, Apr 12 (PRIME) – The Sumotori group plans to start construction of the Prometheus electric car plant, a joint venture with a Japanese company with a capacity of 5,000 cars per year, in the spring of 2018 in the Primorsky Region, the government of the region said in a statement on Wednesday citing Sumotori CEO Vitaly Verkeyenko.
“We are studying the details and working at the project simultaneously. We have registered joint venture Prometheus, we’ve filed for residency in the Nadezhdinskaya priority development area, and we plan to build an electric car plant there. We have reserved a three-hectare land plot for development of the Russian–Japanese project, we are developing the business plan now,” Verkeyenko said as cited by the government.
“We plan to produce 5,000 cars per year at the first stage. Transformation of Japanese economy cars into electric cars does not require high costs, as the technology has already been tested. We will start working next year, when infrastructure of the priority development area is ready.”
Sumotori also plans to build a car utilization plant at the site. “The issue is not just about pressing the metal, it is about deep and smart processing of each component of a car. This project will become a catalyst for development of neighboring spheres, like processing of plastic and rubber crumbs, of shattered glass and of other products of deep processing,” he said.
